Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how RUCO Call ("we", "us", "the app") handles your information. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about what we do.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information (when you sign in)

If you choose to sign in, we collect:

  • Email address (via Google Sign-In or Email/Password)
  • Display name (from Google account, if applicable)
  • Profile photo URL (from Google account, optional)

Authentication is handled by Google Firebase Authentication. We never see or store your password.

1.2 Profile Information (entered by you in the app)

  • Your name and display name
  • Gender (used to personalize SMS replies as "sir"/"madam")
  • Age (optional)

1.3 Call & SMS Activity (stored locally on your device only)

  • Phone numbers of incoming calls that were auto-handled
  • Whether an SMS was sent
  • Time of each event
  • Which mode (Driving/Sleeping/Working/Custom) was active

1.4 Whitelist Contacts (stored locally only)

  • Names and phone numbers you add to your VIP whitelist

1.5 App Preferences (stored locally only)

  • Active mode, cooldown settings, signature preference, DND preference

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide the core call-handling and auto-SMS features
  • To personalize SMS replies with your name and gender
  • To recognize whitelisted callers and let them ring through
  • To prevent SMS spam via the cooldown timer
  • To show you a history of how RUCO Call has handled calls

We do not:

  • Sell your data to advertisers or third parties
  • Use your data for behavioral advertising
  • Read the content of your other SMS messages
  • Access your contacts beyond what you add to the whitelist
  • Upload your call history or whitelist to any server (it stays on your device)

3. Data Storage & Security

  • Call history, whitelist, profile, and settings are stored locally on your device using Android's encrypted Room database. They never leave your device.
  • Account credentials (if you sign in) are managed by Firebase Authentication, which uses industry-standard encryption.
  • If you uninstall the app, all locally-stored data is permanently deleted from your device.

4. Permissions We Request

  • Phone (call screening) — to detect incoming calls and decide whether to auto-reject based on your active mode
  • SMS (send) — to send your auto-reply when a call is auto-rejected
  • Contacts (read) — to display contact names for whitelisted numbers (no upload, no syncing)
  • Do Not Disturb access — to silence your phone while a mode is active
  • Notifications (post) — to show you when calls have been handled

All permissions are used only for the features described and only while the app is in use.

5. SMS Charges Disclaimer

RUCO Call is 100% free. The app itself never charges you. However, any SMS messages sent by RUCO Call are sent through your mobile carrier and may be charged at your standard SMS rate (per your recharge or postpaid plan). This is the same as if you sent an SMS yourself from your phone.

6. Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time:

  • Open RUCO Call
  • Go to Settings → Profile → (future: Delete Account)
  • Or simply uninstall the app — all local data is deleted automatically.

If you signed in with Google/Email, deleting your Firebase account also removes any associated authentication data.

7. Children's Privacy

RUCO Call is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with information, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. Your Rights (GDPR, India DPDP Act)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or India, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data (right to erasure)
  • Object to or restrict our processing of your data
  • Receive a copy of your data in a portable format

Most of these are achievable directly through the app (uninstall removes all local data; Firebase Auth console handles credentials). For Firebase-related requests, contact us at the email below.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Effective" date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted in the app.
